Yeah, I finally found soft nougat here in Klang Valley >_< Used to always have to wait for my relatives to come back from Australia only will I get the chance to eat soft nougat. But now ... I could get them here :) I came across this handmade nougat by Walters in Cold Storage, Gardens Midvalley. Not cheap 'tho. About RM20 for 8 pieces of nougat :o .. but I thought I'd just try it anyhow. So far, I've only been trying the ones from Golden Boronia.
Comes with pecan, almond, cranberries, macadamia .. and can't remember anymore :P
But somehow I find it too soft (at room temperature) for my liking. Still kinda like the ones by Golden Boronia. After I bought the Walters nougat, I spotted the soft nougat by GB at The Cocoa Trees store just next to Cold Storage -_-" Couldn't resist it, I bought a small packet of the Original Soft nougat. RM14.90 for 100g (each nougat is about 8g), so much cheaper than Walters -_-"

First try of Xinjiang
|
Last month, filial and loving daughter (read: me) -_-" brought parents to Genting Highlands to catch the Air Supply concert. Ok, ok ... truth be told. I was the one who initially wanted to watch. But since we're already at it, ask the parents along ~lah. Burnt wallet >_< Before the concert, we had dinner at the Ming Ren restaurant in Genting Hotel. It looked promising from the outside, so we decided to give it a try. The menu
Chopsticks Xinjiang cuisine, I think, is known for its lamb dishes. Lamb kebabs. But unfortunately, because we didn't know at that point of time, we didn't order any lamb dishes. Now coming to think of it, no wonder they had this long list of lamb dishes in the menu -_-" However, the dishes we ordered did not disappoint at all. Infact, I'd give them the thumbs up! The groundnuts came served in vinegar. First time having roasted groundnuts with vinegar. Tasted not bad, actually. Peanuts in vinegar Being someone who's rather fussy about brinjal/eggplant dishes, I've got to pat the backs of the chefs for this brinjal dish - Xinjiang Special Cooking Stir-fried Brinjal with Garlic. Deep-fried brinjals covered with meat floss, and then stir-fried with more meat floss and fried garlics. Very fragrant and tasty. Xinjiang Special Cooking stir-fried brinjal with garlic Next up was the Stir-fried Chicken with Dried Chili. Chunks of chicken meat stir-fried with dried chili and macadamia nuts. A little spicy for me from the dried chili, but very fragrant and aromatic. Stir-fried chicken with dried chili And the beancurd we ordered was really good. Something like a combination of japanese fried tofu served in chinese-style meat gravy. Tempura Beancurd. Fried cubes of beancurd, topped off with meat gravy and pickled gingers. Very nice combination. Tempura beancurd Lastly but not least, we had Rose Tea to wash down all that we had. Rose tea Coupled with 3 bowls of rice, the total bill came to RM74.50. Not bad. So next time you're in Genting and don't know what to eat, why not give Ming Ren a try? Labels: food

Tirami su
|
Apart from Caffé 1920, I now found another place which serves yummy-licious tiramisu. Pizza Uno. Yeah. Now on top of its Alla Vongole, I have yet another reason to be going there for dinner/lunch >_< The last piece, boy am I lucky!! Tiramisu. According to wikipedia, it literally means "pick me up" (Tirami su) in Italian. "Make me less sad". Which basically means "lift me up". Sweet. Labels: food

Best Char Siew in KL?
|
Hubby today finally brought me to the place where he claims sells the best char siew in KL. At Meng Kee, Jalan Tengkat Tong Shin. Pardon the photo quality. They were taken using my humble N82.Best char siew in KL?
Steamed chicken (pak cham kai) Hmmm, whether is it the best in KL or not .. I'm not sure. But I still find the char siew served in Choon Yien (Happy Mansion Apartments, Seksyen 17) the best so far I've eaten. Not to mention their roasted chicken as well. Speaking of which, it's been quite a while since I've last eaten. Hard to get a seat during lunch time -_-" Hmmm, must make an effort one day to try again and see if quality is maintained >_< Oh and by the way ... Happy Birthday, mingyau ;) Labels: food

Ichigo No Choco Daifuku

Got a collegue to help me buy these daifuku from Japan. Yummy. Tasty, tasty >_<

Daifuku is basically mochi, but stuffed with filling. This daifuku I bought has chocolate as the filling. Yummy. Tasty, tasty >_<
The best thing is that it didn't need to cost a bomb. After conversion, around RM16 for a box of 18 pieces. And I bought 2 boxes :) Yummy. Tasty, tasty >_< Labels: food

Yummy-licious Week
|
The past few days seemed like Food Week to me. Been having some really good food of late. One of it being the Iketeru at KL Hilton. It was for dinner with colleagues from our project team. Nothing really much to shout about, I still personally find Kampachi better. But since no need to burn our own pockets, it's still good food nonetheless :P But one thing for sure, the interior decor was really beautiful. I wish I had brought a camera. The "cracked" glass they used as dividers was really artistic coupled with the warm lighting. I think it's a perfect location for a glamour fashion shoot :) Darn it, should have brought a camera. So yeah, you guessed it ... no food pics for this. The other was at The Banquet in Bangsar Shopping Village II. This .. was urm, a lunch together with one of our big bosses' wife. A few of my colleagues and I was given this task of bringing her out for lunch. She was a very lovely and warm lady, thank goodness! (No, I'm not apple polishing!) The decor at BSV II. I love butterflies!
Banquet serves a mixture of local and western cuisine. She had our local Nasi Lemak, while the rest of us ... ordered everything but local entrees *LOL* I had the Penne Pollo Fungi which was pretty good. Colleagues had the Oven Baked Butter Fish and Risotto Porcini. Overall, comments from everyone on the table was superbly good! We also ordered some side dishes - Rojak and Clear Tom Yam. Hey, my memory seems to be working pretty well today!!! Must be from all the good food! Hehe. But I think the bomb of the lunch was the dessert we had. Hot Chocolate Cake. Filled with warm flowing chocolate, and served with cold vanilla ice-cream. Garnished with some grapes, strawberries and a gooseberry (physalis). The warm cake and flowing chocolate coupled with the cold ice-cream was a combination made in heaven! Heavenly, heavenly, heavenly! You have to wait 15 minutes for this, but I tell you ... it is very well worth the wait! *bliss* In case you're wonder how heavenly, here are the shots I took with my colleague's Canon 400D and 100mm macro lens. But too bad, I missed a shot of the flowing chocolate! (Thank goodness my boss' wife is also into photography, so at least we didn't look like freaks documenting food shots!) Hot Chocolate Cake
Gooseberry aka Physalis. Pretty, ain't it?! I wish I could have brought that physalis home. Could have done some nice shoots with it :) Hot Chocolate Cake. What a nice close to a week of work :) Labels: food

Japanese for Valentine's
|
We had Japanese dinner for Valentine's this year. I finally satisfied my craving for a dose of Kampachi >_< If you're wondering where to get really tasty Japanese food, you've gotta try out Kampachi at Equatorial Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. First off, we were served with some appetizer that somewhat tasted like fresh tuna to me. A nice one to start off with. Appetizer We decided to have rice. And fried shrimps, Ebi Tempura, to go with. One of my favourite dish to order >_< Ebi Tempura Then we also had the Agedashi Tofu, a fried beancurd dish. Agedashi Tofu The biggest bomb on the table that night was the Beef (Sirloin) Teppanyaki. Cooked to a perfection of medium to well done. Served with crispy fried beef lard and sliced garlic. 250g of this cost a freaking RM100, we were wondering what cow was this. And I jokingly thought "Hey, who knows. Maybe this cow was the beer-fed kind, except maybe this one with some cheap and expired beer" >_< Beef Teppanyaki
One of the sauces to go with the teppanyaki And there's also the miso soup. With clams :D Miso soup Though the meal was kinda a bomb in the wallet, it was also a bomb in the mouth. It's simply heavenly! A once-in-a-blue-moon indulgence -_-" And yes, you must be wondering where's the sushi and sashimi. We were already so full to the brim when we finished these, we were grateful we didn't order any sushi nor sashimi. And anyhow, I don't do the raw stuffs ... can't quite get the hang of them :P Go on, give Kampachi a try :D Labels: celebration, food

Last week, I bought a bag of these fresh arrowheads that came to about RM7. Today from morning until late afternoon and all the paring, cutting and frying ... I only got to fill 3 (and a little more) containers -_-" *sweat* -_-" When I fry these or when these are sold at stores, it's a sign ... that Chinese New Year is just around the corner :D Labels: food

Yet Another Foodie Post
|
Yeah, it's been a while for now since I've updated. Sorry, peeps ... I don't get any access from work anymore, and by the time I get home, I'm too dead lazy to boot up the PC. Not even to mention having to stare at the monitor again after 8 hours of it at work :P I'll just bombard this post and tease your temptations with some foodie pics >_< Had dinner some weeks back at this new place called Penang Cravings in Atria Shopping Complex, Damansara Jaya. As the name implies, I guess you guys would already know what kind of food they offer >_< We had quite a variety from their menu, namely the Pineapple Rice, Char Kuey Teow, Fish Noodle (without the head), Petai Fried Rice, Otak-Otak, fried asparagus with prawns in sambal belacan, and some drinks and dessert. My opinion on the taste? I'd say average (~lah), nothing to hooha about. But I think the ais kacang (I can't quite recall what's it called in the menu 'tho, something-red-bean I think!) should be good, I particularly like how they used the small red beans instead of those big kidney beans. But too bad, I was down with a cough that time so I only managed to get a small bite of the red beans ... but I think it shouldn't be too bad :P

The red bean dessert.
Soya bean
Char Kuey Teow
Asparagus with praws in sambal belacan
Pineapple Rice
Otak-Otak (I indulge in a bowl of yummy-licious Kari Berapi as I type this!) :D And then, I found another place that makes really good tiramisu cake. In addition to Suchan, I now know where to get another really good tiramisu. From Caffé 1920. It's a little pricey though, at RM8 for a little piece. But I thoroughly enjoyed every single bite of it! Every single bite! Mmmmm-mmmmmmmmm .... So good, I refused to stop and take a pic until I almost finished! Man, I'm drooling just by recalling it as I write this -_-" And last but not least, this is just something that you peeps won't get anywhere out there. Sorry, but (yes) it's my Mama's homemade Pan Mee again. Which I had some weeks back again. Yes, I know I've blogged it before, but I just couldn't resist another picture and hoping I'd make you drool :P So soft and smooth, delicious and tasty that I could wallop a big bowl anytime >_< Labels: food

Beef Noodle
|
I'm not so much in a state to blog. There's so many things running around in my mind right now. So, just a quick update. Went back to Seremban with hubby, sisters and bro-in-law on Sunday. To pay our respects to our ancestors in lieu of the coming All Souls' Day. I can't make it next weekend, so had to do it last weekend instead. Dropped by the Seremban wet market for some Seremban beef noodle *slurp* I don't read Chinese, so I don't know the name of the stall, but it's located at No. 748 on the first floor of the market. Been craving for this like since ages ago :P Finally, I got to sink my teeth into those beef balls and slurp in those rice noodles (lai-fun). I'm not really the spare-parts kinda person, so I ordered just the beef balls to go with the dried noodles. But the groundnuts are my must-haves :D Sorry to say but I find the soup this time not as much oomph as compared to the last time that I can remember :(
Hubby ordered kuey teow in soup. *roll eyes* People come for the famous dried version and the lai-fun, he go and order the ordinary stuffs! Kid you not, but so far I have not been able to find the dried version back in KL like they do in Seremban. Except for one coffeeshop in Section 17 PJ that charges RM6 per bowl -_-" After brunch, we got the flowers and candles before heading off to the cemetery. And OH-MY-GOSH. When we went to pay respect to our grandfather, the mosquitoes came out for a feast!!! They were so aggressive, they won't budge at all once they've sunk their needles into your flesh, even if you move and shake and boogie hard! Poor guys who wore bermudas, there were practically 3-5 mozzies at any one time on their legs. And MuffySis was the potential winner of all. She went in a strapless top and really short shorts. Go figure the amount of flesh open for sucking LOL. Thank goodness I went in long jeans, but then even my arms (and feet) were not spared. I had like 7 mozzy bites just on one arm and hand -_-" Darn mozzies. Big swell on hubby's arm from mozzy bite!
Mozzy bites on hubby's leg! Most likely will not be updating in the next few days. 'Til then, take care and have a great week and weekend ;) Labels: food

Late Lunch at Vivo
|
Last weekend, hubby and I had a late lunch. Yeah, I wanted to catch Grey's Anatomy first before we went out. So by the time it ended and us arriving at The Curve, it was more or less tea time! So we grabbed our late lunch at Vivo. It was an impromptu decision, as we ran out of ideas where to eat, what to eat. I ordered the Creamy Mushroom pasta. Spaghettie with very generous servings of fresh Shitake mushrooms in creamy sauce. But after a while, the creamy-ness and the mushrooms got to me ... and I couldn't finish it >_< Creamy Mushroom pasta
Lookie the mushrooms!!! Either that, or the hubby's order of a Panini (sandwich) got the better of me! He order the Panini promotion set, which came with (of course) panini, coffee and french fries. You get to choose between 3 types of panini, and he opted for the Parmesan & Oregano panini to go with turkey ham. Panini with turkey ham
French fries
Coffee Honestly, there's nothing really special about the Panini. But everything about it was very fresh! From the panini bread to the turkey ham, lettuce to the tomatoes and cucumbers. Nothing beats freshness >_< Would I go for another try of the Panini? Yep, and (cross my fingers) hope they'll keep up with the freshness of the ingredients. Labels: food

Banana Leaf Hokkien Mee (non-halal)
|
For those of you who knows about the Banana Leaf Hokkien Mee in Paramount PJ, they have moved. They used to operate at night in the O&S Restaurant. But have recently moved to SEA Park, the restaurant lot behind KFC. Opposite the Shell petrol station. So last weekend, we went there for dinner after sunset mass. Hokkien Mee (fuk-kin-mien)
Loh Mee (law-mien)
Grilled stingray with belacan chilli and mixed vegetables.
Fried chicken wings I kinda like the fried chicken wings. Hubby says the ones in Fatty Crab Taman Megah are much better, but I prefer this. It's a bit more bland and less salty. And what banana leaf I'm talking about, you must be asking! They use them to lay the plates! However if I'm not mistaken, the noodles are cooked on charcoal fire ;) Labels: food

Elephant - Thai Restaurant & Cafe
|
Yesterday lunch, a few of my colleagues and I went to try out this new cafe at Seksyen 17. Located at one of the blocks of the Happy Mansion flats, facing directly the SRK Sri Damai primary school. The time we went, they didn't serve ala'carte. Only had 4 sets of lunch to choose from - Red Curry, Green Curry, Tom Yam, and Spring Roll Noodle. Each set at RM7.90. A colleague had the Green Curry with rice. I didn't get a picture of it. Didn't look very good to me, and colleague confirmed by commenting that it was nothing special >_< Another colleague had the Tom Yam noodle (I think you can also opt for rice). According to him, also nothing to hoo-ha over. It also didn't smell very aromatic the moment they served it :P Not really someone who can handle hot and spicy stuffs, I ordered the Spring Roll Noodle. Not bad, really. But portion wee-bit too small. Rice noodle served with a fried spring roll, and topped with fresh lettuce and shredded chicken. This dry dish is quite appetising actually - tangy, sweet and a little spicy. Splash on a spoonful or two of the soup that comes with it if you don't want it too dry. All sets come with a drink and dessert. For the drink, I can't quite figure out what is it. Wasn't given a menu, so I don't know what's the name of the drink nor dessert. The drink was like sugared water flavoured with pandan leaves >_< The dessert - slices of watermelon and um, some stuffs made out of flour I think. Sprinkled with coconut, sugar, sesame seeds and what I think are yellow mung beans. And here's the map at the back of their name card >_< Labels: food

Foodie Post
|
Had some yummy-licious food during the weekend >_< *drools* On Saturday nite, hubby and I hopped over to Pizza Uno at BU Centerpoint after church. Had again the "must eat" Alla Vongole - pasta served with clams in light sauce. Heavenly! Also had the usual Iced Chocolate. Another "must try" for those of you who likes chocolate ;) Hubby had the Half Fried Chicken, which he commented was average. Probably because he got the "thigh" part instead of the breasts >_< As for me, I'm not really a meaty person and I'm pretty much a very lazy eater, so I usually won't go for food that needs cutting and scraping in between bones and all :P Alla Vongole
Iced Chocolate
Half Fried CHicken The vongole was just awesome! So awesome, you won't leave anything behind!
 >_< Then on Sunday, I had some pleasant satisfaction from some tidbits. Like this fried dumpling from Esquire Kitchen, 1-Utama, which we ordered during lunch after the dog carnival at the Central Park. Slight crispiness on the dumpling coupled with the aromatic minced meat inside. Mmmmmmm ....... And the best thing, now they serve in a plate of 6-dumplings. Before this, they only serve in 10s. We finally don't need to stuff ourselves until jelak anymore :) Then in the evening, we dropped by SS2 to get some goreng pisang! Oh, the fried stuffs I got that evening were just perfect (minus the oil!) Crispy and warm to the right touch. The goreng pisang, fried cempedak and the nian-gao sandwich. Well, I don't know what you call it but it's a slice of nian-gao sandwiched in between yams.

The banana was sweet and ripe! And the best part ... I finally got to eat some fried cempedak! After what felt like eternity :P And the ones I got that evening were really sweet on the inside and crispy on the outside. Just the right taste!!! Mmmmmmmmmmmm ..... *think-think oso drool liao* mmmmmmmmmm...... Labels: food

Takoyaki

A type of Japanese dumpling made from batter. Pan-fried with some finely-diced vegetables and is stuffed with diced octopus. Sprinkled with some fish shavings ( katsuobushi) and some sauce.
Sprinkled with katsuobushi on top.
Stuffed with diced octopus. It was interesting watching how the balls take form >_< In PJ, you could get these at the SS2 (Cheow Yang/Kayu Nasi Kandar) pasar malam and also at the Ming Tien food court in Taman Megah. MuffySis could down 8 balls at one go -_-" Sheesh! And yes, these were the cause of us being late for the fireworks display :P Labels: food

Weekend Shopping
|
Had a great long weekend. Was on leave on Friday. Took my mum and nephew shopping on Friday. Dad didn't wanna join us. MuffySis couldn't join due to classes. I had never driven so much before in all my years of driving. Today was the record-breaker. More than 80km. From 11am right up to 6.30pm. It may not be much compared to others, but for me ... it was! First stop was to Mac-Pa-Pa-Pa >_< in BU Centerpoint for an early lunch. Then off to Subang to drop the sis at Metro college. She brought me the wrong way! But coincidentally, was the way to the yummy-licious Pan Mee she's been telling me about >_< Too bad we already had lunch, and she was already running late for classes! Otherwise, I could have tried how good it is :P Playing peek-a-boo! He thinks you won't see him if he can't see you >_< Then it was off to Midvalley Megamall. This was a waste of time. We only managed to get into the carpark, and that's it! I round-and-round for about half hour, and still didn't get a parking space. Complete failure! Complete waste-of-time. And I still had to pay for the parking -_-" Luckily the small one was sleeping soundly throughout. We decided to change spot. So off to 1-Utama we went! And in contrast to Midvalley, we found a parking spot on the rooftop. Under the shades! Not bad. Had late lunch at the Colors nyonya outlet. Didn't do much shopping, had to pick up SlowSis from the LRT station at 4pm. Dropped mum back home. Picked up Dad and MuffySis. To collect the new car. Atos Prima. I kinda like the colour :) Hung around at the showroom while waiting for them to sign the papers and all. Having all those done, dad drove the new car back with elder sis. While MuffySis and I went to Cats Whiskers at DU Uptown. Hoping I'd get the 2 tops I've been wanting. But lady luck wasn't on my side. Again :( Finally decided to call it a day. And headed back home. Just about time for dinner :) Saturday. Went shopping again with mum and MuffySis. At Bangsar. Lotsa boutique stores. Selling chic and affordable clothes :)
Gallo, Baci, Musse, Cats Whiskers, Amos, etc etc. Musse was just not within our range of affordability >_< They sell designer pieces from a range of brands such as BGBG, Miss Sixty, etc. *gulp* Poor, cheapo people like me cannot afford those :P It has been a long time since I last came to this area. And my first since they had this many clothes boutiques. So yeah, I was like a jakun :P See, they even have such pretty hooks!!! Had lunch at ChatterBox in Bangsar Village. Ok. Not bad. The fried beef kuey-teow (or was it venison?!!!) ngau-yuk-hor was not bad, just needed a little more soya-sauce. And as usual I ordered the wrong stuff. Fried tong-fun. It was not bad really, just that they had lotsa crappy stuffs inside which I don't fancy such as the dried small shrimps :P Sis and I ordered the honey lemon, which I thought would be good but turned out ok only. When it arrived, we were like "Wow, that's really yellow for honey lemon!! Looks more like Chrysanthemum tea!". Only to realise that it was the glass that was yellow when we almost finished the drink >_< Pai-seh!
Beef kuey-teow
Fried tong-fun
Honey lemon We had a good time shopping. Bought most of our stuffs from this Amos store. Pretty cheap. And most importantly, the clothes fit me ;) Shopped till our legs almost went sore! And until it started to rain! Hopped back in the car just in time! It was really a fun weekend I had with my family since I moved out. Had *someone* brought me to watch the fireworks, it would have been a really pleasant closing to a fantabulous weekend :P Labels: food, personal, shopping

Dining at Charms
|
It was quite some time back when we dined at the Charms in The Curve, but I thought I'd just go ahead and blog about the pictures I took. Nice place, with a very warm ambience. Very nicely lighted up with beautiful chandeliers and lanterns. Menus come with little bells tied to them - pretty!

The menu covers a variety of Asian delights - fried rice, fried noodles, etc. I ordered the pineapple rice, and I think it was not bad. Not entirely fantastic, but pass lah.
A little pricey for such cuisine, but I guess it's a normal thing when you dine in such environment and ambience. One thing in the cafe that caught my interest was this Milo tin hung from the top at the cashier. Kinda reminds me of where the stall operators in our wet market used to keep their money when trading! Labels: food

Yummy-licious Christmas
|
Usually during festive days, we will gather together and have dinner. And Christmas was no different. Not any lavish kind of dinners, nor big gatherings with all the aunties and uncles and relatives. Just the parents and siblings. Simple, small but warm gatherings. This Christmas Eve, we had homemade salad. Prepacked salad you can conveniently get from the supermarket, along with some canned peaches and fruit cocktail thrown in. Coupled with some eggs, corns, sausages, and cherry tomatoes. We also had the usual hams, but I didn't take any shots of it. Not forgetting the all-important whipped potato from KFC, which is a must for me whenever we have homemade salad. The others have thousand island and such for dressings, I must have the whipped potato with its gravy as my dressing :)
This is how I like my salad. For Christmas lunch, it was at The Curve's Italiannies. The place was rather dim with warm, incandescent lights, therefore my pics are a somewhat under-exposed and the white balance is kinda bad cause I was lazy to do custom WB and partly because I prefer my pictures to show of the actual ambience. The interior. I didn't quite get the names of the stuffs we had cause by the time I reached the place after rounds and rounds of trying to find for a parking space, my family has already placed the orders. I got these names from my sister who so adores going to that place for food! Spinach & artichoke formaggio. The crusts taste really good, and somehow I believe the formaggio dip would be too had I not tried it only after it turned cold and rancid. Calamari caesar salad. My hubby just couldn't resist those calamari :) The pastas we order. From left-to-right: the Classic Carbonara; Clam Linguine (didn't get the sauce name though); and Marinara Shrimp Linguine. And finally for Christmas dinner, it was the usual simple Chinese dinner of rice and dishes that we have every night. But all my favourite dishes :) From left-to-right: stewed chicken with potato and carrot; broccoli and cauliflower with mushrooms and beancurd skin; and fuzzy melon with glass noodles (jie gua chao fan-si) mmmmmm ... a yummy-licious Christmas!!!
