Snatch Theft Attempt
Sunday, May 10, 2009

What's so special about this picture, you're probably wondering. Nothing, really. But it's an image that I'd just like to share with you all. And also a story that comes along with this.

This was the very last picture I snapped on my Nokia N82. Before it was almost gone in a snatch theft attempt. Yes, I almost became a victim of this selfless and rampant crime. I never thought it would happen to me, but this thought was very wrong.

It happened right outside my in-laws' house. On the way to the house, in the car, I was actually randomly snapping the blue sky that evening. Just as I arrived, I came out of the car and went just a meter ahead of the neighbourhood seeing if there's anything for me to snap but since there was nothing, I turned off the camera and was about to turn back around and walk into the house. That was when my husband - who was fiddling with his car interior - just casually shouted out to me to be careful as he heard a motorbike coming from the back.

Whenever I am walking on the road and I hear a motorbike coming from either behind or front, I'd usually stop and stare at the motorcyclist. Just a caution. Alert. At least let them know that I'm on alert in case they're snatch thieves. And so this was what I did that evening.

Somehow things happened rather slowly. I don't know if it really did happen slowly, or things just played in my mind slowly just like how you see those scenes in the movies LOL~

I remember alerting myself to be careful. With the handbag draped over my left shoulder, I held on to the strap cautiously with my hand. And with the handphone on the other hand, I held to it tighter. I watched the motorbike coming nearer. And I became more alert when they came closer towards my direction (I was standing on the road shoulder). That was when the guy riding pillion stretched out his hand in an attempt to grab my phone. Honestly I'm not sure if they were targeting my bag or the phone. Just as this happened, I took a step back and swung my hand which was holding the phone to my back. And as they drove past, I also turned and continued looking at them. I could see the guy riding pillion punching his fist with one hand, as if in frustration because he didn't succeeed.

I quickly walked back towards the house. Yes lah~ I still could walk calmly instead of run LOL~ As I was walking it dawned unto me to look at the number plate. I tried but the guy covered it with his hand. I could only make out the first number which was 7.

Thank God for the protection.

Guy and gals, let me share my thought with you. Nowadays it doesn't really matter if you're a girl or a guy. Imagine this, if they really wanted to snatch my phone .. it could happen to a guy as well. So please be on alert. I don't know what the country is turning into lately, but it's best you take care of yourself. Be on alert at all times. Don't talk/sms on the phone while walking on the road. Don't stuff your ears with earphones that are blasting away because you will not be aware of your surrounding.

Whatever it is, take care you peeps~ Never say it would never happen to you.

My fiance also almost became a victim. They even slowed down and considered a second attempt!
