Drama Week

Haven't been blogging this entire week, because this whole week ... was a chain of events!

Monday morning started out just like any other mornings, except that I wasn't feeling very well with gastric and cough. But I decided to go to work and see the doctor down at the workplace. Got my medicine, and *tadaa* MC as well. So I went on home to rest because I did think I wasn't really well enough to work on.

So on to home, I took a bowl of porridge and the medicine. The doc also prescribe Vit C, which I took one. But not long after, I felt horribly nauseous ... and you guessed it! I vomited. My first ever vomit in my own condo's toilet >_<

I thought maybe the medicine were too strong since this was the first time I've been prescribed with pills for cough. So I went to see my usual doctor down in Damansara Jaya. She said the medicine shouldn't be the problem, probably it's the Vit C that caused the upset of acid and gas in the stomach that prompted the vomit. She also said I had some viral infection in the large intestine - some kind of food poisoning. And so I was prescribed with new medicine for the cough and gastric. I was also given some Ultracarbon charcoal. And MC for the next day -_-"

Tuesday went on pretty ok. The appetite was still not there, but at least I managed to down some mee suah soup. And also I started purging. I thought oh well, maybe it's the charcoal that's purging out all the toxin, so I didn't give much thought to it.

On to Wednesday, I was still purging and of course started feeling week and tired. I went on to work in the morning, but then decided to take the afternoon off to get more rest. Since I was still purging, I decided to give the doc a call and ask about it. Turned out to be my viral infection was starting to show its symptoms and it was nothing to do with any of the meds prescribed. Then my mum decided to call our family Gastroenterologist specialist and ask him about my condition. There, the doctor asked me to take 2 Imodium to stop the diarrhea and Maxalon to stop the nausea.

Come Thursday morning, I still wasn't feeling well. I decided not to go to work, and went to visit the family Gastroenterologist doc. He did a very thorough check-up, and I think we spent almost 30 minutes in his room doing consultation and check-up. He then said what I am going through is just dyspepsia (not gastritis) and acute food poisoning. And so I was prescribed with new medicines and antibiotics (thank goodness!).

Went on home to take the medicine and all. But somehow another drama started in the late afternoon. I suddenly had a very bad difficulty in breathing. You know when you breathe in and out, you can see your stomach expanding and deflating due to the movement of the diafragma? My one was hardly moving, it's like my lungs are hardening up. So my dad and sister took me to the ER in Sunway Hospital. Seriously I thought I was gonna die on the way there :P

Over in Sunway, the docs took blood and urine samples for test. Everything came out negative. Normal. But I was given a Bascopan jab to relieve the abdominal pain. Then my breathing was ok. But somehow, another drama unfolded. I noticed the muscles around my neck and face started to become stiff. My head would just turn backwards to the right, and just keep going that direction. Then it would stiff towards the back. Then to the front! It was scary. I told the doc, the doc said it shouldn't be any side effects. So I thought ok I'll just go on home and relax.

But back at home, the stiffness did not become any better. In fact at one point, it spasmed and stiffed towards the back and left so much I thought it could break if it continues to spasm that way. The my mum called our family doc again. The doc said maybe it could be the toxin going upwards to the head, and then told my mum to give me one Dalium and see if it would help.

I was already getting dressed, ready to get admitted once again into hospital when my mum decided to put some hot pack on my neck and see if it helps. After a while, it sure felt so much more relieved. I'm not sure if it was the Dalium at work or the hot pack, but I was glad my neck felt relaxed again.

And here I am today on Friday, blogging about this. Today has been good (cross fingers), and I seriously hope I'd get all well soon enough. This week has been like hell :(

I'm no doctor, but the muscle spasm could be caused by low levels of electrolytes in your blood. Diarrhea and vomiting plus poor diet can cause this. Did the doc give you any oral rehydration salts? If no, try buying some from a pharmacy or drink 100 plus. It is very very important to keep your mineral/salt levels balanced during this period.

Identify common symptoms of electrolyte imbalance. Notice any changes in the skin, such as loss of elasticity, difficulty breathing or slowed breathing, heartbeat irregularities, abdominal cramping, feeling faint when you stand and muscle weakness or twitching.

I agree with charles, with so much purging and vomiting going on, you need to maintain your water + salt intake.

Drink some 100 plus and not the cold ones :) Get well soon.
