First try of Xinjiang
Tuesday, July 08, 2008
Last month, filial and loving daughter (read: me) -_-" brought parents to Genting Highlands to catch the Air Supply concert.

Ok, ok ... truth be told. I was the one who initially wanted to watch. But since we're already at it, ask the parents along ~lah. Burnt wallet >_<

Before the concert, we had dinner at the Ming Ren restaurant in Genting Hotel. It looked promising from the outside, so we decided to give it a try.

The menu

Chopsticks

Xinjiang cuisine, I think, is known for its lamb dishes. Lamb kebabs. But unfortunately, because we didn't know at that point of time, we didn't order any lamb dishes. Now coming to think of it, no wonder they had this long list of lamb dishes in the menu -_-"

However, the dishes we ordered did not disappoint at all. Infact, I'd give them the thumbs up!

The groundnuts came served in vinegar. First time having roasted groundnuts with vinegar. Tasted not bad, actually.

Being someone who's rather fussy about brinjal/eggplant dishes, I've got to pat the backs of the chefs for this brinjal dish - Xinjiang Special Cooking Stir-fried Brinjal with Garlic. Deep-fried brinjals covered with meat floss, and then stir-fried with more meat floss and fried garlics. Very fragrant and tasty.

Next up was the Stir-fried Chicken with Dried Chili. Chunks of chicken meat stir-fried with dried chili and macadamia nuts. A little spicy for me from the dried chili, but very fragrant and aromatic.

And the beancurd we ordered was really good. Something like a combination of japanese fried tofu served in chinese-style meat gravy. Tempura Beancurd. Fried cubes of beancurd, topped off with meat gravy and pickled gingers. Very nice combination.

Lastly but not least, we had Rose Tea to wash down all that we had.

Coupled with 3 bowls of rice, the total bill came to RM74.50. Not bad.

So next time you're in Genting and don't know what to eat, why not give Ming Ren a try?

quite reasonable price for Genting's restaurant standard ~.~

actually the portions were quite small. But I'd rather pay a little more for something satisfying like this, rather than the other so-so food that are priced above average.

Wait...$75 for 4 people? That's so cheap!!! i don't normally eat eggplant, but that dish with the meatfloss looks so delish i wouldn't mind trying it. Well of course, paired with your excellent photography skills, any fool would be willing to give it a try lol.
