Braving Ants
Thursday, July 26, 2007
Yep! I braved them to take pictures. Black ants. Those measuring about 1cm in length. I'm not really the kind of person who'd dare to get close to creepy crawlies. But this time, I braved it and held my camera close to them with the front glass of the lens only about 3 inches away from the ants >_< That is seriously freakin' close enough for me!!!

I was eager to try out the styrofoam diffuser again. And I knew there's this palm tree in my dad's garden that has been infested with these black ants recently. I spotted some of them near the roots of the tree.

The magnification wasn't really great. The above pic is an actual whole picture, nothing cropped, just resized. The following pics are, however, quitely heavily cropped.

Lone ranger at another spot on the tree.

I spotted them feeding on something. Yeah ... something -_-"

Apart from that it being quite "eye-catching", so far I think I kinda like what this diffuser can do. At least it saves me from the unpleasant harsh lighting and shadows produced by the built-in flash. But it's just the lighting/temperature that I'm still quite uncertain about. Some of these pics were taken when the evening sun was shining quite brightly at the spot. So, I'm not sure if the slight golden/warm tones from some of these pics were a result from the evening sun or the diffuser. But heck, I actually like the golden tones :D
