Bangkok : Wat Hua Lampong
Wednesday, February 28, 2007
Temples and shrines are a very common sight in Bangkok. Somewhere along the road, somewhere around the corner, you'll most likely to come across one.

The one we visited was Wat Hua Lampong, suggested by the receptionist of the place we stayed at. Going by BTS from the Chit Lom station was quite a hassle - I think we would have to switch trains twice. So, we ended up taking a cab there.

As with most of the temples you can find in Bangkok, the design and architecture is awesome. Very intricate and delicate details on the interior and exterior. Drawings and paintings don the walls. Elaborate and magnificient motifs on the ceiling, windows and doors.

Shiny gold paint on the outsides. Intricate details decorate the roofs and pillars.

My mother had been hinting a lot about wanting to offer some prayers for my father at a temple. And finally there we were in the morning of the last day. Me? Well, let's just say ... I was there to accompany my mother! What a good daughter I am :P

The pic you see above is of my mother sticking some gold paper onto the hand of the Guan-Yin statue. Whaddayaknow, she came back, bought some numbers ... and she won (albeit just a little). And the idiot me, I went to get some joss-sticks to offer to the Gods as a sign of respect. I was initially given in sets of joss-sticks, a yellow candle, and a paper. Being the silly me who knows nuts about Buddhist worshipping and all, decided to not take the paper. Just contentedly walked away with the joss-sticks and candles. Only to find out later when I saw my mother that the paper was actually some gold paper that you stick unto the statues for some wealth luck! *gasps* My mother got a little windfall with sticking only one, and I actually declined the four pieces I was presented with! Alamak ...

Well, enough of the silly me! This is a new hall which is still undergoing development. Now you see what is beneath those intricate gold designs on the roofs and all? I wonder how much effort is going to be needed to be painting those motifs on the roofs and pillars. Wow...

Coming up next ... some crappy street photography!
