I <3 Chinese New Year. I don’t know why exactly, but maybe because it’s a time for long holidays :) And family time. And of course, food. Every year, there’ll be the Eve dinner (30th night), 1st day lunch and dinner, 2nd day lunch and/or dinner (hoi lin – open year), hometown lunch, 7th day lunch/dinner (when it’s everyone’s birthday), Chap Goh Mei lunch and dinner, and more. Never ever go for your health check-up after CNY :)
The food delight ended last Sunday, so here’s a post – foodie post – of some food I had throughout the celebration. First up was the braised pork with mushroom and sea cucumber that my mum cooked for the Eve dinner. Ooo yummy!

Then, there’s the “classic” pork balls that my mother-in-law loves to serve. Not sure if she made them, or bought them. But the soup was home-made. And the chilli sauce to go with it, my hubby just loves it!

My mother-in-law is also famous for her vegetarian dishes, namely the “vegetarian goose” (zhai ngor) and “vegetarian chicken” (zhai kai). Her vegetarian goose is a bit different from the fried crispy type I used to had from outside, hers is not the crispy type but has fillings of some type of mushroom.

As for the vegetarian chicken, the texture inside is very smooth. According to her, it’s not easy to make and the beancurd used has to be chosen very carefully and of high quality to ensure success of the dish. These 3 dishes from my mother-in-law, I’ve gotta say that they’re like her signature dishes. LOL~

There were many more yummy-licious food I had during CNY. My granny’s chicken porridge with dried scallop and oyster, crabs with salted egg yolk, etc etc. And of course … the ultimate CNY-must-have yee-sang! This yee-sang was ultimately covered with peanuts and sesame seeds and salmon!!!

I love yee-sang! Now that CNY is over, I’m gonna miss yee-sang -_-”
I think I should learn how to make yee-sang. Haha.
Playing fireworks (sparklers) during Chinese New Year.

For the young.

And old.

I simply just love the above pixie of grandpa playing fireworks. I wonder if he was feeling as if transported back to his childhood days :)
